Graveyard Keeper 2 Cooking — Repair the Kitchen, Unlock Recipes, Cook Every Meal

Published 2026-09-237 min read

How cooking works in Graveyard Keeper 2: repair the broken oven (2 stone blocks) and kitchen table (6 planks), set up firewood fuel, and unlock more recipes through merchants and NPC quests.

Almost everything in Graveyard Keeper 2 costs energy — mining, chopping, building, and the daily gravedigging shift. Sleeping refills the bar, but running home to bed every time it empties burns a huge slice of the workday. Cooking fixes that: a prepared meal restores energy wherever you're standing. Before you can cook regularly, though, you need to rebuild the keeper's kitchen.

Quick answer

Repair the broken oven with 2 stone blocks and the broken kitchen table with 6 planks — both sit against the left wall inside your house — then keep the oven supplied with firewood fuel and start cooking.

Repairing the oven and the kitchen table

Walk into the house and look left: the broken oven and broken kitchen table lean against that wall, both unusable until repaired. Gather both materials before you interact.

Station Repair cost
Broken oven 2 stone blocks
Broken kitchen table 6 planks

Once fixed, the two stations split the work. The kitchen table handles prep: cold dishes and cutting raw meat or fish before further cooking. The oven produces hot meals and cooks raw meat and fish — and it burns fuel for every recipe.

Stone blocks for the oven

  • Mine stone from the boulders scattered around the world with a pickaxe.
  • Make wood wedges at the chopping point from short logs — fell a tree, then dig out the leftover stump for a short log; one short log yields 10 wedges.
  • Craft stone blocks at the stonemason workbench: each block consumes 2 stone and 4 wedges, so budget 4 stone and 8 wedges for the two blocks the oven needs.

Planks for the kitchen table

Fell trees for logs, process logs into boards at the sawhorse, then craft planks at Carpentry Workbench I at a 1:1 ratio — six crafts for the six planks the table needs. Wood feeds half the early tech tree, so don't burn every log the moment it's cut; a standing reserve pays for itself.

Fuel: the part everyone forgets

The kitchen table runs on ingredients alone, but every oven recipe consumes fuel — and a repaired oven without fuel cooks nothing. Set the fuel chain up right after the repairs:

  1. Build the firewood shed from the blueprint on the wall left of your bed: 10 twigs + 2 bronze nails. Twigs drop as you chop trees and clear weeds and brambles; bronze nails come from smashing barrels and junk piles around the yard.
  2. Make firewood at the chopping point: one short log produces 10 firewood, or 20 twigs as an alternative.
  3. Load the firewood shed: 2 firewood converts into 20 fuel.

The indoor shed feeds only the oven. The outdoor furnace and kiln need their own shed in the yard — both must be restocked separately.

Cooking your first meals

With both stations repaired and fuel loaded: prep ingredients or make cold dishes at the kitchen table, then run anything needing heat through the oven. The simplest first meal is bread — grow wheat in your garden, draw water from the well, combine them into dough, and bake the dough in the oven.

You'll know the loop works when stations accept ingredients, oven recipes consume fuel, and finished food lands in your inventory ready to eat. Bread is worth baking in bulk because both ingredients are farm-renewable — and bulk cooking counts toward the Master Chef achievement, which asks for 100 dishes prepared in total.

How more recipes unlock

Repairing the kitchen doesn't hand you the whole cookbook. New dishes open as you progress, through two channels:

  • Merchants — some sell recipes directly.
  • NPC quests — quest rewards that teach new dishes. Herlock, the fish merchant in the village, is the early example: bring him the fish he wants and push his goals to unlock baked fish plus additional fish recipes.

As new ingredients surface and NPC lines advance, the recipe book keeps growing — and each tier of cooked meal replaces berries and snacks with far bigger energy restores.

Why cooking matters

Food's whole value is energy without sleep. Working far from home, finishing one more resource run, or squeezing in a build before bed — a packed meal keeps the day going instead of ending it at a bed. Even a few basic meals in the inventory make each in-game day stretch further, and as better recipes unlock, they steadily push out the berries and foraged snacks. Repair the kitchen early; it's one of the best time investments in the game.
