Graveyard Keeper 2 Faith — How to Unlock the Church and Earn Faith Every Week

How to get faith in Graveyard Keeper 2: unlock the church through Jack and the twins' questline, hold sermons on Wrath Day, and stack church splendor, gratitude, better prayers and the Pastor perk.
Faith is Graveyard Keeper 2's long-term resource — it fuels inspirations, research and story progress — yet the game gives you no way to earn it at the start. Only after a chain of early errands hands you the church does the faith economy open. Here's the full route, plus the four systems that multiply every sermon.

Quick answer
Faith comes from holding a sermon at the church once per week. To unlock the church, help Jack build and equip his ship, then meet the nun at the tavern.
Unlocking sermons: Jack, the twins and the nun
There is no hidden faith node at the start — you simply push the opening quests. If you haven't been pointed at Jack and the twins yet, talk to the merchants in the village to start the chain:
- Deliver ship materials to Jack. He asks for materials across two quests; gather everything up front and hand it over in one go. You need 5 wooden planks and 5 bronze fittings.
- Craft planks from boards at the carpentry worktable (requires Woodworking I in the tech tree). Craft bronze fittings from bronze ingots at the wooden anvil (requires the Hardened Barrel expansion and the Bronze Working technology). Research any locked recipe before crafting it.
- Convince the twins to row. They stand across the bridge south of the village, and they only cooperate once you make them 5 clay plates.
- Dig clay around your base, unlock Pottery I, and build the pottery wheel. The recipe turns 2 clay into 3 clay plates, so a short digging session covers it. Deliver the plates and Jack sets sail.
- Keep playing. Several in-game days later you'll receive a letter overnight — Jack isn't coming back, but the nun is. Go to the tavern and talk to her.
That conversation opens the church and unlocks sermons. You can walk in and hold your first mass immediately.
Hold mass on Wrath Day
Sermons are the main faith source, and you can hold exactly one per game week, on Wrath Day — marked on the calendar by a deep-red vertical symbol. Miss the day and you wait a whole week.
The basic prayer is enough for your first sermons: walk to the pulpit, choose the prayer and begin. A typical early report lists around 10 visitors, 3 faith and 50 silver. Collect the donations from the offering box, then open the inspiration menu to see your new faith total. Every sermon also pays silver, which you can reinvest into the church — the loop funds itself over time.
Getting more faith out of each sermon
Because mass happens once a week, every sermon should be as strong as possible. Four systems stack:
1. Church splendor
Improve the church itself. Clear the interior first, then add furniture that impresses the congregation. A bench costs 2 planks + 6 bronze nails, and there are six bench slots — filling them all takes 12 planks and 36 bronze nails, plus the energy to build in one sitting. You don't have to place everything at once, but finishing before Wrath Day raises that week's faith. The theology branch of the tech tree later unlocks shrines, candles, incense and bigger construction upgrades.
2. Keep gratitude full
Gratitude is the new stat shown as a golden thumbs-up at the top of the screen — the town's trust in you. The higher it is, the better the congregation's offerings, and every sermon consumes it. You have the whole week to refill it before the next Wrath Day.
Watch the cap: it starts at just 10, and the game always takes the lower of church quality and gratitude, so a great church with an empty gratitude bar still fills only ten pews. Raise the cap as you raise the church.
Ways to earn gratitude:
- Bury corpses, then sell the burial certificates to the innkeeper.
- Use the town gratitude book pages awarded by quests.
- Sell food to merchants.
- Sell any item marked with the golden thumbs-up in the shop menu.
- Help NPCs complete their quests.
Check gratitude before every Wrath Day and top it up — preaching below the cap wastes the week's potential.
3. Write better prayers
Later, the writing desk lets you compose stronger prayers with different bonus effects on top of faith. It's locked early, and higher-tier prayers only pay off once the church can hold a real congregation anyway — focus on splendor and gratitude first, then upgrade your prayers as writing tech improves.
4. The Pastor perk
Completing theology inspirations unlocks permanent religion perks. One of them, Pastor, directly increases the faith every sermon earns. Push those inspirations alongside your other progression.
The weekly rhythm
Treat every Wrath Day like a prepared event: refill gratitude during the week, expand the church whenever you can afford it, upgrade prayers when writing tech allows, and keep advancing theology. One well-prepared sermon out-earns a rushed one many times over — and that faith is what keeps research and the story moving.
